Wellbeing Month - Social Distancing Cuppa

Everyone has become very aware of keeping two metres from each other the past few months, so with this in mind we would like you to try our social distancing challenge! Keeping two metres from a cup you have placed on the ground, attempt to throw a dry tea bag into the cup. Try as many times as you like but make sure you keep that distance 😀

The 5 ways to Wellbeing

This month we celebrate wellbeing in the CTC while we continue to work and learn from home.  We will look at some of the actions over the coming weeks we can all take to protect our mental health and maintain positive wellbeing during uncertain and challenging times.  This week we are concentrating on the action 'Keep Learning' - taking photographs, reflecting on the past months, mindful drawing, colouring, reading, trying out a new app and cooking.  Check out this video and follow the five step plan to maintain and improve your wellbeing:

Men's Health Week 2020 - Sligo CTC Sports and Recreation Course

Sligo CTC is a health promoting centre and is constantly promoting physical activity in the centre.  We have a dedicated Sports and Recreation course instructed by Danny and Steve and it is open to males and females aged 16 – 21 years. We offer a wide range of fitness modules including Health & Fitness and Soccer and also provide the opportunity for learners to participate in a variety of activities such as soccer, golf, basketball, yoga, pilates, hiking, walking, swimming, cycling etc.  We are very lucky to have our own centre gym and we have a lads active programme on offer for other male trainees in the centre.  The centre also takes part in Gaisce, one of the challenges is physical recreation and this involves becoming physically stronger and improving fitness.

In normal times when we are in the centre, as part of the sports and recreation course, Danny  facilitates a variety of fitness classes in the gym every morning,  This is a snap shot of a class back in February 2020.

Physical Activity - restores your overall balance

Being active doesn’t have to mean going to the gym.  This #MensHealthWeek there are loads of ways that you can do this in your daily life e.g. take the dog for a walk, go cycling, wash your car by hand, take the stairs instead of the lift, cut the grass, take-up jogging, dig-over the flower beds, join an online class.

Girls & Lads Active

Girls and Lads Active is a voluntary fun programme organised by Emer, Janell and Aideen.  It is aimed at helping the trainees find a physical activity that they enjoy and will keep up in their own time.  The range of activities are chosen by the trainees including walking, soccer, basketball, football, yoga, pilates and gymnastics.  This takes place every Wednesday between 2pm - 3pm. This programme is available for the computer, hairdressing, catering and exploring options group.  Today the girls are doing Zumba with Barbara and the lads are playing soccer or they can go to the gym in the sports complex.  This is a fantastic opportunity for the trainees to get out of the centre and keep fit and healthy!
