Lads Active - Week 2 - Outdoor Green Gym

Lads Active group had their second activity last Wednesday using the outdoor green gym in Doorly Park coached by Aileen. The outdoor green gym is designed to offer a workout for all abilities and has the same low-impact, resistance-based equipment found at indoor gyms, but with the added bonus of the lovely views and fresh air included. Well done to all the trainees who took part.

Yeats Day Photography Project - Glencar

To celebrate Yeats Day Sligo CTC will be filling their blog with poems from the gifted Yeats. Trainees are taking photographs of significant places associated with W.B. Yeats poems for the blog. Yesterday Lisa and Janell brought a group of trainees on a photography outing to Glencar Lake and Waterfall. It was a beautiful day and we took some gorgeous photographs of the waterfall and the landscape surrounding it. We also went to the pier at the Lake Isle of Innisfree, an uninhabited island within Lough Gill where Yeats spent his summers as a child. This was a very peaceful tranquil place and we got some truly beautiful shots of the lake and the island.

Earlier in the week, Matthew got some lovely photographs of Benbulben, Drumcliff Church and Yeats Grave which is located in the Drumcliff cemetery. Karl, Philip and Andrew took a trip down to Sligo town to have a look and take photographs of the Yeats Statue and the Yeats Murals. Next week we hope to take photographs of Dooney Rock, Slishwood, Hazelwood and Knocknarea. We will be posting these photographs on the blog between the June 7th to 13th.

Seven girls from the centre are taking part this Thursday the 12th of May in secondary schools Try-a-Triathlon. This is fun way to sample what is involved in a triathlon. The event takes place at 2pm at Sligo sports complex and Cleveragh Park and includes a 300m swim, a 6km cycle and a 2km run. The girls have completed training sessions over the past few weeks in preparation for this event. We wish them luck with this on Thursday.

Plane Sailing

Marian travelled to Enniscrone last weekend to see a 70-ton Boeing 767 that travelled from the west coast of Ireland on a barge to Enniscrone.  The Plane was lifted by a crane onto a wooden road and transferred by giant trucks across the beach to the road into the village.  The plane is intended to be used for a Quirky Campsite in Enniscrone.  Several thousands of people gathered to Enniscrone to view the jet on the water.  It was a historic and memorable occasion.
