Men's Health Week - Strength and Conditioning Class

Some of the lads took part in gymnastics with Kate today at the Sports Complex.  This was something different and good fun!

Men's Health Week - Superfood Salad Recipe

Ingredients

A small bowl of cooked quinoa (keen-wah)
1 tbs toasted nuts - pine nuts, cashews or flaked almonds
1 piece of fruit - apple blueberries
A handful of leaves or raw vegetables - baby spinach or grated carrot
Juice of 1/2 lemon or lime
3 tbs olive oil
A handful of fresh herbs - basil, mint, parsley
2 tbs mixed seeds - pumpkin, sunflower
a pinch of salt
1 tbs Greek yoghurt to garnish

Method

Place all of the ingredients, except for the greek yoghurt, in a serving bowl and mix well.  Garnish with the Greek yoghurt and serve.

Men's Health Week - Cooking Demo

As part of Men's Health Week, the lads attended a cookery demo with Mairead in the catering department.  Some of the healthy dishes cooked and sampled were Peanut & Banana Boosters, Superfood Salad, Pitta chips, Summer Oats, Smoothies and Guacamole.  This was a very informative and educational cookery demo and thanks to Mairead and to all the lad's that participated in it!

The Stolen Child

National Bike Week - Lunch Time Cycle

National Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of all that's great about bikes and cycling. Local authorities around the country organize events in relation to cycling.

As part of national Bike Week some trainees took part in a lunch time cycle organised by Sligo Sport And Recreation Partnership. The route started at the riverside hotel and went all the way up the back avenue around the Sligo regional track, there was refreshments after in the Riverside Hotel. The trainees enjoyed the experience.

Plants and Herbs

Our plants and herbs are flourishing in our garden.  We have lettuce, carrotts, beans, scallions, potatoes, spinach, strawberries, chives and sunflowers. 

Planting Flowers

Yesterday Patrick and Andrew planted flowers in the beds and into pots at the back of the centre.  The backyard looks lovely and summery in this beautiful weather!

Slish Wood Walk

A group of trainees and tutors went on a walk to Slish Wood as part of lads active. The weather was very nice and also it was a very enjoyable walk. Slish Wood has great views onto Lough Gill.
